The Total Solar Eclipse occurring on April 8, 2024 occurs every 54 years. Earlier it was seen in 1970. Next time to be seen in 2078. But why is it so?

A rare astronomical event is going to happen in the coming next month. Let us tell you that a total solar eclipse (Surya Grahan 2024) is going to occur on 8 April 2024. Because of its qualities it has become exceptionally extraordinary for astronomers. According to scientists, the total solar eclipse 2024 will be the longest solar eclipse in the last 50 years.

A total solar eclipse is a rare astronomical phenomenon. Such incidents happen  sometimes. When a total solar eclipse occurs, the sky becomes dark for some time. A day prior to the overshadowing, the Moon will come nearest to the Earth at its nearest point. The distance between the two will be 3.60 lakh kilometers.

A total solar eclipse is going to occur on 8th April. This will be the first total solar eclipse of the year. It is being said that this time’s solar eclipse will be the longest solar eclipse in half a century. According to the American space agency NASA, a total solar eclipse may last for 70 minutes on April 8. Let us know all the important information about it.

Date:
April 8, 2024

Time:
According to Time and Date, the partial eclipse will start at 9:12 pm Indian time and will continue till 2 am on April 9. The solar eclipse will be at its peak around 11 pm.

First Total Solar Eclipse of The Year on April 8

When the Moon passes in perfect alignment between the Earth and the Sun, it is called a total solar eclipse. During this time the Moon totally covers the Sun. Due to which the sun’s rays cannot reach the earth. This happens only for some time. On the day of the eclipse, the average distance of the Earth and the Moon from the Sun will be about 15 crore kilometers.

This will be the longest solar eclipse in the last 50 years. Such a view of complete solar eclipse was seen 50 years ago. Now such a rare coincidence can be seen again this year. The solar eclipse occurring on April 8 is expected to be the longest solar eclipse of the year. This total solar eclipse will last for about 7.5 minutes. It will start from 2:14 pm and continue till 2:22 pm. Last time a solar eclipse occurred in the year 2017. But the solar eclipse of 2017 is quite different from this year’s solar eclipse.

Partial Solar Eclipse:

  • In a partial solar eclipse, the Moon partially covers the Sun from the perspective of a spectator on Earth.
  • This happens when the arrangement of the Sun, Moon, and Earth is such that the Moon only partially obscures the Sun’s disk.
  • During a partial solar eclipse, the Sun shows up as a bow or a circle with a dim shadow covering a part of it.
  • This phenomenon is visible from specific areas of the Earth depending on the arrangement of the divine bodies and the spectator’s area.

Angular Solar Eclipse

  • An angular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun, but it doesn’t cover the Sun completely.
  • Instead, a ring of sunlight, known as the “ring of fire,” remains visible around the Moon’s outline.
  • This happens because the Moon is near its apogee, the farthest point from Earth in its orbit, making it appear slightly smaller in the sky.

Why is The Solar Eclipse Not Visible Simultaneously All Over The World?

Let us tell you that a Total Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon comes exactly in line with the Sun and the Earth. The reason behind not being able to see the solar eclipse simultaneously all over the world is the size of the moon. The size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Earth and when it comes between the Earth and the Sun, the shadow it casts is able to cover only a few hundreds of kilometers of the Earth, so that we can see the solar eclipse only in that part. (Solar Eclipse) is visible.
